abstract = {The efficient handling of a quantitatively extensive
by-product of an integrated steelworks represents a major
challenge in the realization of a circular economy strategy.
Through purpose-related optimization following the basic
oxygen furnace (BOF) process, the BOF-slag (BOFS) can be
reintegrated into the circular economy in the sense of
circularity. The chemical and mineralogical adaptation of
the slag had two primary objectives: - Immobilization of
trace elements, especially vanadium - Volume stabilization
of the BOFS. Both objectives were successfully achieved
through the targeted modification of the chemical and
mineralogical composition following the steel production
process. The slag was modified by injecting residual
materials from the steel mill into the liquid BOFS-phase,
