AB  - In this work, the influence of different gases on the aerodynamic damping of compressor blades in forced response vibration is numerically investigated. In particular, the Mach number varies when different gases are compressed. Thus, the influence of the Mach number on the aerodynamic damping is also considered. The uncoupled investigations are conducted on a rotor row of a subsonic industrial axial compressor originally designed to compress air. Based on the results, a method is developed to transform the aerodynamic damping between gases and Mach numbers. The first bending mode and the first two torsional modes are considered in the investigations. The aerodynamic damping for all nodal diameters is determined using the influence coefficient method. The influence of the gas itself is analyzed using argon, carbon dioxide, methane and propane at a constant Mach number. It is shown that the aerodynamic damping scales exactly with the dynamic pressure for all investigated mode shapes and frequencies. Minor scaling errors occur only for the torsional modes in the vicinity of the acoustic resonances. The influence of the Mach number on the aerodynamic damping is investigated for Mach numbers between 60
