%X In this dissertation, the competitive and cooperative behavior of sibling pairs was investigated in an fMRI study. This was carried out at the Department of Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy at RWTH Aachen University Hospital. The sibling pairs were admitted according to certain criteria before participating in the study. The premises of the BIF and the MRI scanners of the University Hospital RWTH Aachen were used for this study. The behavior of the siblings was recorded using personality questionnaires and interactive play paradigms during fMRI measurements. A special focus was placed on possible gender differences in behavior. The dominance behavior of the sibling pairs was recorded with the help of a play mask in the form of a cargame, the “Feiglingsparadigma”. Aggressive behavior was investigated using Taylor's aggression paradigm. The dominance and aggression questionnaire were used to examine aggression and dominance character traits in addition to aggression and dominance behavior. The results showed gender differences in dominance behavior as well as in the hostility trait. Dominance behavior was higher in the brother pairs and the hostility trait showed higher values in the sister pairs. No significant gender differences could be shown in the aggression paradigm, but a round effect was detectable here, which suggests a mutual influence in the provocation and aggression behavior of the siblings during the paradigm. No correlations were found between the aggression and dominance character traits and the aggression and dominance behavior. In summary, the present study was able to demonstrate gender differences in dominance behavior and hostility traits between sibling pairs, but not in aggressive behavior.
