%X This dissertation examines the biography of the Jewish dentist Alfred Cohn (1881–1970), who was considered a pioneer of social dentistry during the Weimar Republic. The study aims to analyze the mechanisms of racial persecution under National Socialism, the challenges of emigration to Bolivia, and the unique circumstances of his later remigration to Germany through the lens of Cohn’s individual fate. Methodologically, the work is based on a qualitative evaluation of extensive primary sources, particularly his personal papers as well as records from the Berlin State Archives and the Compensation Office. The results show that following his imprisonment in 1933 and the revocation of his medical license in 1938, Cohn was forced to flee to exile in Bolivia under precarious conditions, where he built a new life despite linguistic and cultural barriers. A central focus is placed on his extraordinary decision to return to Berlin in 1955 and open a new practice at an advanced age. In parallel, the study reconstructs the compensation proceedings, which lasted over 15 years and serve as an example of the bureaucratic hurdles in the early Federal Republic of Germany. The thesis concludes that, due to his remigration and his professional political commitment in the post-war period, Cohn's life path is to be regarded as atypical for the group of displaced Jewish dentists and offers important insights into late restitution policy.
