AB - The objective of this development is to provide a computer-based system for production support in shipbuilding. The approach of the system is based on the user-oriented promotion of communication, the support of interaction with the planning and design departments as well as the delivery of information on shopfloor level. The system intents to make the structural change to a flexible, team-oriented way of working possible and to support the responsibility of the workers. On the basis of the analysis of two shopfloors of a large shipyard first a communication model was sketched and a requirement catalog developed. With consideration of contentwise, technical, ergonomic and economic criteria the concept for the production support system was developed on basis of the requirement catalog. The underlying architecture of the software is based on the levels data acquisition, data integration and presentation. The data acquisition level utilizes standardised interfaces, which enable connections to automated machines, e.g. welding robots, and establish connections to operational data sources, e.g. the database of production planning or the design department. The integration level prepares it in a user-related way using a user database. The preprocessed data is then handed over to the presentation level in the user interface where it gets combined. The system is based on a modular approach applying Intranet technology and can be adapted to further shopfloors or be extended by additional functions easily. Different modules have been developed and integrated for near realtime production monitoring, 3D-visualisation and control of manufacturing processes. By the integration of standardisation information, process specifications, maintenance plans and other documents the worker is provided with an information basis, which he can consult for the solution of problems. The support system has an open, user-oriented communication system, with whose assistance the workers can exchange experiences and problems e.g. with the design department or other workers in a topic-oriented way. A shopfloor-suitable planning system has been integrated, so that the worker is able to let short term plan deviations and changes of boundary conditions flow into planning. Additionally, different modules have been developed for the evaluation of processes, which make the localisation of causes of plan deviations possible. The system has finally been installed and validated in two shopfloors of the shipyard.
