abstract = {The literary reception of Brecht’s theatre in Greece took
place in several stages in correlation with the often
difficult political situation of the country. Brecht’s
theatre stood and still stands today in an area of tension
between art and politics. Especially the conservative
theatre people leaning towards tradition criticize his
stance and the political implications of his plays while at
the same time they try to redeem the latter as works of art.
This ambivalent relationship is reflected in stage
productions, in which the Aristotelian tradition is played
off against the Brechtian intention to set in motion a train
of independent thought on the part of the audience.},
