%X Companies are nowadays confronted with a variety of forces, e. g. liberalization of international markets, fast developments in computer and communications, growing force of globalization and thus with a changing competition (high flexibility, short time to market and product cycle life time). Consequently companies build international co-operations focusing on own core competences to stay competitive. This leads to structural changes which often not only cross company but even country boundaries. Hence no longer single companies compete with each other on the market but co-operational networks, e. g. global production networks. The success of a cooperation is influenced by various success factors. One important factor from the point of view of business computer sciences is coordinating the business processes of the cooperating companies. As a consequence decisions of companies regarding their organizational structures and contractual agreements as well as coordinating corporate and inter-corporate business processes are crucial success factors. To coordinate their processes companies need to gather and depict them. One important tool for this is graphical process modeling as it is generally said to be highly understandable. The success of process modeling is of crucial significance as it can lead to the realization of new processes, changes in the company structure and the implementation of information technological systems. Nearly all management concepts are influenced by business process modeling or are related to it. Still, there are no standards or guidelines for model quality measurement leading often to non corrected errors in models. This thesis tries to close this gap by building a framework which helps identifying possible challenges the management of inter-corporal co-operations are facing. The author examines in two studies the influence of modeling experience on model quality as well as the one of model quality on the understanding of models with differential cultural backgrounds.
