AB  - Quality cultures are known to be key to successful quality management in industrial production businesses. Especially from the viewpoint of practitioners, existing research on quality cultures has significant shortcomings though: It’s focus are idealistic instead of realistic organisational development goals and it makes little specific statements on the complex interactions between organisational cultures and quality practices. In addition, no research is available, which discusses how quality cultures will have to develop in the cyber-physical production systems of the future, which are considered to be one of production businesses’ major challenges. In the course of the present work, data has been gathered on the organisational cultures and the quality management of almost 500 producing businesses in the German speaking environment. The analysis of the data has especially revealed the strongly positive but largely indirect effects of so-called Clan cultures. These Clan cultures, which are characterised by high levels of employee responsibility as well as flexible problem solving, have been identified to be responsible for 40
