%X The presented thesis describes the development of scintillator-based particle detectors with silicon photomultipliers (SiPM) for three projects with different goals. In the first project, a plastic scintillator is used to develop fast muon triggers for the Muon Track fast Tag concept at the CMS experiment. Three detector layouts have been tested in a protonbeam of the COSY accelerator at the Forschungszentrum Jülich and analysed regarding the spacial distribution of signal height, trigger efficiency, and signal timing. The second part describes the work on detectors for fast neutrons with stilbene crystals as scintillators for the use in radiographic applications as part of a feasibility study. Due to the intrinsic scintillation properties of stilbene, it is possible to distinguish neutron and photon signals based on their pulse shape. The last part describes the installation of a detector array on the rooftop of the physics department of the RWTH Aachen University for the detection of cosmic air showers, to be used in the particle physics lab course of the physics master program. The array consisting of six liquid scintillator detectors has been commissioned and the first analysis shows the successful direction reconstruction of air showers on the basis of data from a five day measurement.
