Mining focused exclusively on the Kristallsalz since 1923. More recently, the Schwadensalz, another rock salt horizon of the Leine-Folge (third Zechstein sequence) is partially included in the production. Both horizions are subject to considerable fluctuations in quality, especially in the form of sulfatic accessory minerals like anhydrite. Apart from Normalsalz, the basis for high quality salt products, deicing salts with much lower quality requirements are also produced.
