abstract = {In the manufacturing sector the integration of
manufacturing technologies has recently been intensified to
achieve synergetic effects, expand product life times and
enhance the efficiency of the technology. To take up this
research focus, in this thesis an application-oriented and
KPI-based method is developed enabling the identification,
evaluation and selection of robust concepts in the context
of manufacturing technology integration. The method is
addressed primarily to machine tool manufacturers who are
involved in the hybridization of conventional manufacturing
systems. The core of this method is based on a
workpiece-centered approach derived from Systems Engineering
that qualifies development engineers to elaborate technology
concepts meeting the requirements. In order to support the
product development process during the concept phase and to
minimize iterations, the developed approach considers the
interdependencies and interactions resulting from the
combination of manufacturing technologies into an integrated
manufacturing system. For practical application, the process
is oriented towards a property-based system model and is
characterized through a consistent and general procedure
model. As a result of the research process, a development
guideline is provided which takes into account the
interactions within the scope of concept synthesis and
facilitates a step-by-step achievement of objectives. Thus,
the method provides a decisive contribution to control and
master the increasing system complexity preventively and
proactively. The demand for a systematic method that
considers all essential influencing factors is met with this
PhD thesis.},
