AB - In order to expand the testing possibilities of a hot gas test bench for mechanical tests on exhaust gas turbochargers under engine-realistic pulsation, the object of this work is to develop a pulsation unit which is installed between the steady-state combustion chamber and the turbocharger. The aim of the new development of the pulsation unit is to achieve sufficiently high pulsation coefficients Ψ for a wide range of internal combustion engines regardless of the number of cylinders. The validation of the pulsation unit is based on engine test bench experiments on the turbocharger of a 1.0 L three-cylinder engine. A load variation at n = 2000 min-1 from pme = 10 bar to pme = 20 bar shows that the pressure pulsations are reproduced with sufficient accuracy at all operating points. With Ψ = 1.19, the pulsation unit at the LET operating point deviates only marginally from the values of the three-cylinder engine (Ψ =1.21). Known concepts so far achieve values of Ψ < 0.7. The investigation of the wastegate flap movement with optical measurement technology was carried out with engine-realistic exhaust pulsation, the comparable mechanical excitation leads to a matching WG flap movement. It could be shown that the pulsation generator works reliably. The operational reliability of the design has been experimentally demonstrated for maximum exhaust gas temperatures of T = 700 °C.
