In two distinct models, blood samples from male volunteers were analyzed before and after they were exposed to welding fumes: repeated exposure on four consecutive days, each lasting 6 hours and single exposures for 3, 4 or 5 hours each. An increase in neutrophil granulocytes and MPO was observed 24 hours after both, the single and repeated exposures lasting 6 hours. This increase is comparable to the CRP increase already described in the literature after exposure to welding fumes.
