The development of laser-based additive manufacturing (Powder Bed Fusion Laser Beam, PBF-LB) of these carbide grades does not go beyond feasibility studies. Cracking and the unexplained formation of undesirable cobalt-tungsten carbides prevent their use as tool materials.
