AB - Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is a transparent and rigid thermoplastic polymer often used as a lightweight alternative to quartz glass. Within the context of plastic recycling and a circular economy, pyrolysis of PMMA is a promising process to recover the monomer unit MMA from the polymer. For quantitatively determining the released products under various reaction conditions, a suitable method based on the analysis of the gas phase is required. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy is a suitable technique for quantitatively specifying a broad spectrum of the resulting pyrolysis products. However, to be able to close the mass balance properly, the primary pyrolysis product MMA must also be correctly quantified in the gas analysis. The following data set includes FTIR reference spectra recorded for MMA/N2 gas mixtures with MMA volume fractions in the range 3626–145087 ppm generated with an evaporation/condensation setup. Spectra are recorded with an Ansyco GASMET DX-2000 (2.0 m optical path length) in the spectral range of 600–4200 cm^-1 (8 cm^-1 spectral resolution) for a cell temperature of 453 K and atmospheric pressure.
