AB - The built environment brings together a wealth of information from very diverse disciplines. The "digital built environment" reflects this as the entirety of contributions from architects, engineers, owners, facility managers, governmental agencies, etc. Since these contributions are highly diverse and produced by multiple actors, it is not easy to maintain an overview of the available information. In this context, a centralized "Common Data Environment" (CDE) is used to facilitate collaboration between these actors during specific phases of the building lifecycle, on the scale of individual projects. However, much information remains only decentrally available, such as regulations or geospatial data. Additionally, the existence of many mutually incompatible centralized CDEs makes it difficult to connect data from individual projects. This doctoral research explores an alternative approach: examining the conditions for a federated CDE and the technologies available to support it. In this scenario, each actor can manage their own data while still flexibly connecting it with other data sources on the web via web technologies. The result is a "federated multi-model" that potentially provides an overview of the entire building lifecycle. Topics covered include data vaults, interdisciplinary data collections, authorization, and interaction with both autonomous services and end users.
