The nanostructures from block copolymers are fascinating for the nanotechnology. The key is to control the ordering and orientation. Complexation of polymer chains with low molecular weight molecules via non-covalent interactions is a tool to construct the well-oriented nanostructures. In the current work, it is firstly shown that the small liquid crystalline (LC) molecules can form perfect monolayer. After annealing such monolayer shows a mobility of ~10-2 cm2/Vs. The commercial available AOT is attached to PS-P4VP via ionic bond. The nanostructure is controlled by not only the composition and molecular weight of the block copolymers, but also the degree of protonation. The orientation of the nanostructure propagates to thick films. The AOT can be removed by shortly washing in basic solution. These thin films can be used to direct the self-assembly of gold nanorods with different coating. The orientation of the nanorod is controlled by the morphology of the thin films, and the optical properties can be tuned by changing of the immersion time in the solution. The block copolymer complex is mixed with TiO2 polymeric precursor in solution, the precursor is selectively miscible with AOT/P4VP via coordination. During processing, they co-assembly and ordered nanostructure forms. These nanopatterns can be converted into TiO2 by using of soft technology. A simple and convenient method to self-assemble block copolymer lamellae in thin films uniformly is shown. This is done by exploiting the supramolecular liquid-crystalline ordering of the block copolymer in combination with PTFE rubbing technology. In this way uniform alignment of the block copolymer is obtained in both the vertical and lateral directions. The functionality can be easily introduced into the thin film via supramolecular approach. A new asymmetric oligothiophene molecule is complexed with P2VP-PEO via hydrogen bond. The optical properties of the complexes are discussed. Finally it is shown that these complexes can self-assembly in water. A unique onion type vesicle is obtained from the complex of P2VP-PEO/wedge-shaped ligand in a wide composition region of PEO. The wall of the onion type vesicle is made from alternative close packing of the P2VP and ligand bilayer, where the hydrophilic P2VP backbone is parallel to the wall and contact with water.
