abstract = {The thesis “The role of Fetuin-B in the process of human
fertilization”, written by Janina Krebs, examines the
influence of Fetuin-B on the fertilization. The thesis
investigates the association between Fetuin-B and
fertilization rates (number of fertilized eggs) during an
                      ART-Therapy (assisted reproductive technology). More
precisely, the author analyses Fetuin-B’s ability to act
as a biological prognostic marker. An additional research
question of the thesis is, if Fetuin-B is influenced by
characteristics such as age, body-mass-index (BMI), nicotine
consumption, primary or secondary infertility. Therefore,
Fetuin-B levels were measured multiple times from 101
patients that underwent ART-therapy for the first time.
ELISA-technique was used for subsequent analysis. The main
result is that Fetuin-B significantly increases during
                      successful fertilization (fertilization rate $>25\%),$
whereas Fetuin-B does not increase during unsuccessful
fertilization (fertilization rate $<25\%).$ A previous pilot
study came to a same result, so these results confirm
previous pilot studies and provides further evidence that
Fetuin-B can act as a biological prognostic marker for
fertilization rates. In addition, this study finds that
Fetuin-B is not significantly influenced by individual
characteristics. Drawing the conclusion, we observed a
significantly increase of Fetuin-B during a successful
fertilization (fertilization rate $>25\%)$ which underlines
the essential importance of Fetuin-B during the
fertilization. In future, it would be interesting to examine
the promotor of gene regulation of Fetuin-B and to analyse
if there are more association partners of Fetuin-B.},
